Belyaev Victor – Toyohashi 2014

Toyohashi University of Technology, Toyohashi, Japan

From the October to December 2014, I was in Spin Electronics Group (link) of Toyohashi University of Technology. It was the first experience of internship to the foreign university and it left remarkable memories. There, under the supervision of Professor H. Takagi I was working with scientific equipment for fabrication of thin film multilayer structures and characterization of surface morphology and magneto-optical properties of fabricated structures. I knew several nuances of working with Ion Beam Deposition and Magnetron Sputtering methods, Scanning Electron Microscope, Focused Ion Beam and E-beam lithography setups. During the internship, I fulfilled all scientific demands and quenched my curiosity about the living in native Japanese town.

Work with scientific equipment is awesome. Especially when you know what you need to do, how can you do it and how to check the results of your work. Planning and making experiments, checking and discussion of the obtained results leads to increasing of self-discipline and attention to the experimental process.

During the internship, I communicated with the master and Ph.D. students of TUT. I took part in several parties that were organized by the staff of Spin Electronics Group and organized one party myself. This was the first time when I visited the Pacific Ocean, tried original Japanese cuisine and watched Godzilla. If my tutor (Mr. Hashimoto-san) or anyone from the laboratory staff reads it I want to express my gratitude to all of their efforts and politeness for your courtesy and kindness.
